International Student Connections

New full-degree international undergraduate and graduate students will be connected to an OIA Ambassador who will serve as a direct peer connection.  This is someone to get in touch with whenever you have questions and are not sure who to ask for help.  The Ambassador will keep you updated on events and opportunities within the international student community and beyond.

Conversation Cafes

Conversation cafes is a joint program with Conversation Partners. It is open to both Conversation Partners participants and the general public. It is a welcoming and informal space for peer-led discussions and activities.  The Cafes promote informal discussion to share culture and improve conversational English skills.
Cafes are run weekly from 5:30-6:30pm in Library Rm 384 during the Fall and Winter semesters.

As part of International Student Connections, the OIA hosts a weekly hangout in the International Student Organization (ISO) Lounge (UC 535) called i-Chat. i-Chat is run from 12pm-1pm, on alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each week, the theme of the chat is chosen to represent something relevant to your experience as an international student. Past themes have been about finding a job, getting involved on campus and staying healthy. This is a casual space for you to meet other international undergraduate and graduate students, grab some free food and meet the student peers in our office.

In collaboration with the International Student Organization we run a series of events to local attractions. If you're an International undergraduate or graduate student, this is your chance to explore some of the things that are unique to this region and connect with other international students. Please check our Gryphlife page, "International Student Connections" for upcoming events.
