Introduction & Overview
The Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) serves the campus community by fostering an environment of cultural competency and diversity. At the intersection of academic and co-curricular learning the OIA offers intentionally designed programming and services that foster leadership and community development within an intercultural and international context. There are two main functional areas within the OIA that support the growth, development and learning needs of students of racialized backgrounds and undergraduate and graduate International students.
International Student Advisor
Serves the needs of international students, visiting scholars, new immigrants and refugees. Common issues include adaptation challenges, housing needs, academic concerns, financial difficulties and challenges associated with faculty-student relations (particularly for graduate students).
Intercultural Programming
Educational events and workshops provided as a means to support international students and students of racialized backgrounds in their transition to university life and study and to introduce international students to Canadian culture.
