HIV/AIDS Education (Guelph)

  • Dates: February 19-24, 2012
  • Number of Students: 18
  • Cost: $200

Overview

In partnership with AIDS Committee of Guelph (ACG) students will explore the complexities of the pandemic from social, medical and advocacy  perspectives.  Through experiential learning activities, guest speakers and presentations, students will prepare themselves for leading HIV/AIDS awareness workshops in local highschools which will take place during the latter part of the week.

Here's what the week might look like....

Keep in mind that we work hard to organize PSC programs all throughout the year so this is just to give you an idea of what you might be doing on the program.

Sunday evening: Teambuilding activities, sharing expectations, potluck.

Monday - Tuesday:  Intensive training days with AIDS Committee Guelph Educator, BJ Caldwell where you will examine HIV/AIDS from a medical, socio-economic, and emotional perspective.  Speakers, films and experiential activities will help conversations go much deeper.  You will also start preparing to lead workshops in local highschools.  Also, lots of time for structured reflection.

Wednesday: Group preparation of workshop, resources and HIV Transmission Game.  Time for reflection.

Thursday - Friday: Workshop presentations to hundreds of highschool students.  Last year's group reached over 600 students!  Final debrief and reflection activity, and preparation for Project Serve Canada Showcase (March 15th).

This table will provide you with a general breakdown of where your fee goes.  The PSC programs are completely cost-recovery: we make no profit, but rather use our budget to help keep the costs of the program as low as possible.
